It was a very special day in Fort Wayne Indiana on July 19, 2008. Julie & Ryan Minch were married. Julie is our daughter and we are very happy to be able to share her perfect day with all of you.

Beverly C. Kalmes was my sister in law and she passed away on Sunday, November 2nd, 2008. We were at her memorial service in Albuquerque, New Mexico to honor her life.

Her ashes were spread across the west side of  a Mountain in Albuquerque, overlooking the beautiful Sandia Mountainside.

This is a tribute to her life, her family and friends who were with her every step of the way. She is now at peace and happy!

Lesli has been fighting a brave battle against IBC (inflammatory breast cancer) which has spread to her Brain. She went to MD Anderson in Houston for much of her treatment, including chemo, radiation, surgeries and more. She is an inspiration to all who know her including yours truly.

We had a very enlightening interview with Irena Salina, Director of an upcoming Award Winning Film/Documentary called FLOW (For Love of Water) www.flowthefilm.com. It won the official selection of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, The International Jury Prize at the Mumbai Film Festival, Best Human Interest Film at the 2008 Flagstaff Mountain Film Festival and Best 2008 Documentary at the Vail International Film Festival.

Irena shocks us with some facts about water, pollution, supply, bottled water, the Amazon Forest, Lake Erie and where we are headed if we continue down the path we are on right now. Most all of us take water for granted, thinking it will always be here for us and nothing we really need to worry about. This could not be further from the REAL truth!

Irena tells us what motivated her to Direct this Film, her background in the Film Industry, her 5 year quest to put this film together and her passion about making life better for her children and future generations.

She talked about a great website www.foodandwaterwatch.org which has a wealth of information about food and water and is a non profit organization that works to ensure clean water and safe food.

Here is the one thing Irena wants everyone to know.....Water is very forgiving.....She notes that if everyone just in New York City gave up just one bottled water a WEEK (it takes oil to make these bottles by the way), we could save 24 million bottles a year going into land fills. 

**Take note of this statistic: It takes over 1.5 million barrels of OIL to make bottled water every year which would fill over 100,000 cars for the year. There are over 24 BILLION bottles going into landfills every year or 66 million bottles a day.

Some city mayors like San Francisco are taking this issue seriously and other countries are doing amazing things. But here in the USA we need to do much more. Europe bans the use of Atrizene a chemical that is harmful, but here in the USA it is still prevalent in the water that we are drinking. If politicians were really interested in keeping our water safe, they would ban this chemical and ban industry dumping chemicals into our waters.

You know how most of us think....What can I do, just one person, to make any real impact or change on the world as we know it....Conserving water is it! With very, very little effort, we CAN make a difference. Turning off that water while brushing your teeth or while lathering up in the shower, etc. along with low flow toilets can make a HUGE impact. Also catching and containing rain water in barrels or water tubes that are out now. Check out this website:

We had a great time talking to Ben Favret today all about slalom water skiing  for which he has won several awards and championships. The one that meant the most to Ben was the 2001 US Team World Championships in Italy....Listen in to hear why this was a very special day for Ben and Team USA.

At the ripe old age of 3 Ben started to ski and told us how he made the transition into slalom competitions. He made some tough decision and sacrifices along the way, but has absolutely no regrets because of what he has accomplished and experienced over the years.

Ben talked to us about the basics of how to get up on your skis that first all important time, the 4 fundamental movements for water skiing, barefoot, 2 foot and slalom skiing and what beginners should do to make it the most enjoyable for them.

Ben has also co-authored a book: Complete Guide to Water Skiing which can be found in most book stores or online. He talks about how he was motivated to write this book.

Ben told us about his most memorable "Wipe out"....with a surprising result, you won't want to miss this story.

He has 4 children that keep him busy and is fortunate enough to live on a Lake, so he is always skiing and of course loves it, along with his family.

We talked about how Ben keeps on going at the ripe old age of 40+ and his story is a true inspiration. You can hear the passion in his voice about what he does and that he is truly following his DREAM.

It all began with the Hosts of the LakeFront Radio Show, Yours Truly, Chuck & Mary Thompson celebrating their 25th Anniversary on July 23, 2008.

They were married on Navy Pier in Chicago, Il on The SS Clipper Ship that was once docked there. (Chuck served our Country in Viet Nam in the Navy on a Destroyer Ship, so this made for a perfect place to Wed)

They thought how great it would be to interview Navy Pier during the week of their anniversary.

WHAT ARE THE ODDS?

1. What are the odds that we would start our own radio show 25 years after we were married and do well enough to "Score" an interview with Navy Pier, the place where we were married.

**Turns out Navy Pier thought this would make for an interesting show, with us having had some history on their Pier.**

2. Now comes the really interesting part. We interview Delores Robinson-Asst. PR Director for Navy Pier and we ask her if she knows what happened to the SS Clipper Ship. Last we knew it left the dock many years ago and we thought it was scrapped due to its age. It was an old Steamer Ship that was built BEFORE the TITANIC in the early 1900's.

3. She proceeds to tell us the history and story of "Our Wedding Ship" that blew us away. It was a museum before we were married on the ship. In 1983, just a few months after we were married, SHE was listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.

4. In 1990 SHE left Navy Pier, the same year we moved from Chicago to Georgia!  In 1989 she was designated a National Historic Landmark. She once was a luxury passenger ship between Buffalo New York and Duluth Minnesota. SHE was renamed the Milwaukee Clipper Ship after she moved in 1990, so it was hard to track her down, but Navy Pier did!

5. SHE was moved to Indiana and then moved back again to Muskegon Michigan after a 20 year absence. She was refurbished there and this is her home today. 

 We were very happy to hear that Our Ship survived and was alive and well in Muskegon.....

TWIST OF FATE .....

The story is far from over......When Delores told us the ship was now in Muskegon, we were shocked as we had interviewed Marge Beaver (the 73 year old aerial photographer) just a few weeks prior on our show and guess where she lives and works? Muskegon! Plus Marge had taken beautiful photos of Navy Pier and all of the Great Lakes in her travels.

So we contact Marge and ask her if by chance she knows The SS Clipper, now The Milwaukee Clipper.

She not only knows the Clipper Ship she had taken photos of it while it was being refurbished....The Photo you see above.

This is quite a shock to us both, we never thought we would see Our Wedding Ship Again!

NETWORKING & MEDIA

So this could be the end of a truly great story where all the "STARS" align so to speak, BUT it is not over yet!

You might wonder.....If we are a Radio Show in Atlanta, how did we hook up with an aerial photographer in Muskegon, Michigan of all places....Enter HARO..Help A Reporter Out.

Peter Shankman a well known PR and Networking Business man and Author started this website out in November, now almost 20,000 members strong. This is a FREE service for the MEDIA, PR Agencies and regular FOLK across the World.

WOW is all we can say about our interview with Patric. This interview was both very informative and FUN with a whole lot of laughter in between!

We talked about how Patric got into this profession (very funny and involves a "pay back" story) and all about the Great White Sharks and diving off the West Coast of the USA at a place known as Isla Guadalupe. He provided us with a very interesting story about this island.  www.sharkdiver.com 

**He gave a sneak peak into another place where White Sharks have been discovered** An "exclusive" for LakeFront Radio!

We discussed the whole process of cage diving,  including cage construction, for the Great White Sharks and the history of the species. The Sharks have even been given names....You have got to listen in to hear how "Shredder" got his name. Fantastic Story!

We talked about why these Sharks are so much different from the rest and why they happen to be "hanging" around in this area of the Country, which to Patric seemed odd, so he went on a research mission to find out all the interesting details about why they are drawn to this area.

We talked about Shark Diver's fantastic 5 day expeditions aboard one of their 2 vessels for an experience you will not soon forget AND why this visceral experience brings life back into your bones, that precious few experiences provide in life!

We had a really special show today and what a treat it was to talk with Delores Robinson, Assistant Director of Public Relations for Navy Pier out of Chicago, Illinois www.navypier.com, the Number One destination of the Midwest with over 8 million visitors annually. Delores took us through a wonderful journey of the history of Navy Pier, which overlooks the beautiful Chicago Skyline and Lake Michigan, dating back to the early 1900's up to the current day. What a change the Pier has undergone over all these many years. George W. Bush even made his mark here. He had his pilot's training on Navy Pier.

It was once the location where the well known Chicago Fest was hosted in the 1970's and early 1980's. In the 1990's it underwent a huge transformation. Navy Pier in Chicago was most recently the place to be for the huge Batman Movie Premier, where much of the production was filmed.

Navy Pier www.navypier.com is a must see when you travel to one of the greatest cities in the USA....none other than Chicago, IL. This city has so much to offer and Navy Pier is the focal point for all your entertainment needs.

A very special part of this show is that your hosts, Mary & Chuck Thompson were married on Navy Pier 25 years ago this week (July 23, 1983) aboard the The SS Clipper Ship which was docked there. As far as we knew the ship left Navy Pier and was long gone and possibly scrapped in a ship yard somewhere due to the age of this steamer ship.

So when we asked Delores if she had any knowledge of where the SS Clipper Ship went or the history of this Ship, she literally "blew us away" with what she found. Delores did extensive research into this Ship and found that the name had changed to the Milwaukee Clipper Ship, thus making it harder to track her down. Bottom line is, "Our Wedding Ship" is alive and well and was placed just months after our wedding into the National Register of Historic Sites and in 1989 she was designated as a National Historic Landmark!

Navy Pier has undergone some tremendous changes and it has everything to offer for the entire family YEAR ROUND, from Fine Restaurants, To Shops, an IMAX theatre, Fireworks Displays, A Beer Garden, a 150 Foot High Ferris Wheel, Boat Rides, Huge Banquet and Party facilities, Strolling Entertainment and Music, an indoor ice skating rink during their Winter Wonderfest, with thousands of twinkling lights and 100 decorated trees, a gaming area, train rides, all in time for the Holidays.

All of this overlooking Lake Michigan and one of the most beautiful City Skylines in the USA. Chicago at night is like none other! Of course we may be a little prejudice since we lived there for so many years, but Navy Pier will always hold a special place in our hearts for obvious reasons. We are so impressed with how this Pier has changed over the years and what a wonderful attraction it has become for all to see and enjoy.

All we can say is Thank You Delores and Navy Pier for the very special treat you gave to us.  You made our 25th anniversary that much more special. You went way beyond the call of duty and added a great chapter in our "book of life".

What an inspiration...is all we can say about Marge Beaver, an aerial pilot out of Muskegon Michigan and a YOUNG 73 years old to boot! http://www.photography-plus.com

You will be in awe when you hear how, when and why she got into the flying business. She found a way to combine her experience dating back to childhood in photography, with her later in life new found passion of flying, to become one of the finest aerial photographers in the USA.

Marge is the Mother of 5 and has been married for 55 years this September to her husband Bill, who has supported her all the way. After she raised her children, she was inspired to become a pilot after flying home from New Mexico over the City of Chicago at nighttime. All it took was $5.00 for a flight in a small plane and the rest as they say is history and what a history it has been!

Listen in to hear some of her wildest adventures, including one cross country trip with a friend, while shooting beautiful photos along the way for clients. Unbelievable story, you cannot miss this one!

Marge tells us how she flies her 1973 Cardinal plane, while taking aerial and vertical shots of some of the most beautiful lakes and harbors across the USA, just to mention a few. Marge has shot photos of all the Great Lakes in the Midwest as well as many other subjects across the entire country, including the Statue of Liberty and the Golden Gate Bridge.

She modified her plane to take vertical shots as well as those she takes out of her side window on the right side of her plane.

She has photographed real estate, commercial properties, lighthouses, harbors, mountains, sunrises, sunsets, even weddings! You name it she has photographed it. She talks about her photography equipment and how she is able to fly and "shoot" at the same time as well as what shots can be the most difficult to shoot.

**Marge shares an interesting and fun story about her unique "ability" to "move the clouds" out of her way when she needs that perfect shot.

The story does not end there...... She has produced 2 stunning coffee table books "Above the North" & "Above West Michigan" and she is currently working on a Lighthouse Book, which will be awesome! http://www.photography-plus.com

Marge has her own print shop too and has the ability to print sizable enlargements of her photos with "virtual mats", a double mat process that is printed as an integral part of the enlargement, using colors in the photo to make a stunning piece of artwork.

Marge also is her own webmaster; she created and maintains her own website. Do her talents ever end? We don't think so! She is a one of a kind adventurous woman who truly is an inspiration to all women and men alike!

You won't want to miss the story about a scary close call Marge had while flying and how she managed to make the best of a bad situation by taking a very special photo before the event was over and the caption she placed under that picture, which now hangs on her office wall as a reminder.

Marge talks to us about her plane, which has been her companion for over 25 years and when asked if she would ever buy a newer plane, her answer was swift. Any guesses as to her answer and why? You have to listen to the show!

One special story Marge shared with us after the show was a time when she flew her Cardinal with Bill at her side (also a registered pilot, but no longer actively flying) to the Bahamas. They landed on a gravel strip where it was quiet and un-occupied. They walked along the beach and collected some of the most beautiful shells they have ever seen. They stayed at a quaint place unlike any tourist stop, where they put in their order with the cook in the morning and had a nice meal waiting for them later that day. They topped off that trip with some great snorkeling. This is one of her favorite memories and we are happy she shared that with us, so we could share it with you.

As Marge said, owning your own plane gives you many more opportunities to go where you want, when you want, which tourists never get to see.

Marge, we cannot thank you enough for a wonderful, fun and enlightening show.....one we will not forget.

Lake Lanier Sailing Club also has a fantastic "Juniors" training program, so that the love of sailing is passed down from parents to children and will live on for many generations to come! This club is all about the family experience and having a great time on the water together.

There was a great rock and roll band, a Beer Truck & Grapes and Hops Bar & Bistro out of Flowery Branch had a wine tasting event. The party was well attended and many brought their folding chairs to sit and listen to the band.   

The dockside grill was open and cooking their famous Dockside burgers, which your hosts enjoyed after the festivities. They were as awesome as we remembered them.

We got together with some old friends of ours from ZD dock, it had been many years since we saw them, so the night was filled with old stories on the dock.

Len Jernigan was hosting the event and was able to mingle with the majority of the customers to say hi and introduce himself, since he joined Aqualand just this past fall as their manager.

We walked some of the docks and could see that several had been extended with new ramps so that most of the docks were in good deep water.

One comment that our friend Larry Sosebee made was that this drought has actually improved the relationship amongst all boaters. In the past there was what you might call a rivalry between House Boaters and Sailors, but now they respect each others space and those around them, primarily because the are all in the "same boat" - pun intended with the low water issues.

Larry said, he has seen a significant drop in fast racing boats across the water, people are being safe and driving slower and those who are not familiar with the lake are staying off of it, especially at night.

We did see a wide range of age groups, lifestyles and personalities at the party and the one constant was they were all having FUN and very excited about the start of the new year at Aqualand. It was a long winter for us all and people are anxious to enjoy the water, relax and have fun!

The Corps of Engineers announced yesterday that the new Georgia Gun Bill signed into Law by the Governor does not apply to Corps Managed Lakes and Lands in Georgia.

Corps Managed Property is regulated by the Code of Federal Regulations. Regulations governing possession of firearms specify that possession of loaded firearms, ammunition or loaded projectile firing devices is prohibited unless in the possession of federal, state or local law enforcement officers or when being used in compliance with hunting regulations.

Consequently state carry permits issued to NON law enforcement officers are NOT valid on Corps Property.
